Thousands Sign Petition to Rename Columbus, Ohio, ‘Flavortown’ After Native Legend Guy Fieri

As the Black Lives Matter movement continues and cities around the United States work on neutralizing tributes to controversial historical figures, there’s now a petition to rename Columbus, Ohio, into something that honors a real American hero who happens to be a native of the great city.

The petition is entitled “Change the name of Columbus, Ohio to Flavortown,” and calls to rename the city as Flavortown in honor of the legendary spikey-haired, diner-loving campy bro Guy Fieri.

Flavortown, Ohio. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

“Columbus is an amazing city, but one whose name is tarnished by the very name itself. Its namesake, Christopher Columbus, is in The Bad Place because of all his raping, slave trading, and genocide. That’s not exactly a proud legacy,” petition creator Tyler Woodbridge wrote.

“Why not rename the city Flavortown? The new name is twofold. For one, it honors Central Ohio’s proud heritage as a culinary crossroads and one of the nation’s largest test markets for the food industry. Secondly, cheflebrity Guy Fieri was born in Columbus, so naming the city in honor of him (he’s such a good dude, really) would be superior to its current nomenclature.”

Well, that’s fair! And clearly people agree, because as of the evening of June 23rd, over 63,000 people have signed the petition. Looks like we’re already halfway to Flavortown, folks.

Honestly, I would love to see Flavortown become an independent city-state with Guy Fieri as its fearless leader. But that’s probably not going to happen.

In any case, if Columbus really does end up becoming renamed Flavortown, Ohio, Fieri should at least become honorary Mayor. You know, because according to his Twitter bio he’s already mayor, so it’d be the right thing to do.
