Post Malone is known for cranking out genre-bending hits that draw from hip-hop, emo and punk, but the “Circles” artist has a deep-seated love of classic hard rock and metal.
For instance, Post admirably played an hour-plus-set of strictly Nirvana tunes with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, bassist Brian Lee, and guitarist Nick Mack during a digital concert for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund (click here to watch and donate before the fundraiser ends on June 17.) And on a recent episode of a Megadeth bassist David Ellefson’s recent livestream, Post professed a love of three legendary thrash outfits.
“I’d say y’all. I mean, Megadeth has gotta be the best for me,” Post says. “I love Megadeth, I love Metallica… you know, I love… Fuck, man. So much shit…” he told Ellefson and his business partner Thom Hazaert.
“I love Pantera. I got to meet Phil [Anselmo, frontman] backstage at a show, and he’s a cool-ass dude, and he talks like this (adopts a deep voice). I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s gotta hurt to talk [like that],’ but he’s still fucking got it.”
Kerrang notes that this revelation should come as no surprise, as Malone has collaborated Ozzy Osbourne on “Take What You Want” from 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding, hung out with Metallica at the Bay Area rockers’ final show of 2018, and performed a karaoke cover of Pantera’s “Walk.”
Point being, don’t be surprised is Post’s next release features chugging distorted riffs, vocal fries and double-bass kick drums.
