An All-Electric Cadillac Escalade Is Officially Happening

The Cadillac Escalade is going green. General Motors recently confirmed that an all-electric version of the large-and-luxurious American SUV is due out in or before 2025.

Car and Driver reports that the EV will supplement—and not replace—the gas-fueled Escalade. Concept images reportedly show similar proportions to past models with the addition of new desing elements, including a “steeply raked windshield” and flowy lines.

It will be built on GM’s third-generation electric platform featuring Ultium batteries, which are large-format modular cells that can be stacked vertically or horizontally inside a pack. The forthcoming powertrain could produce as much as 1,000 horsepower and provide up to 400 miles of range.

Powered by a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, the current 2021 Cadillac Escalade (pictured) is the largest model yet, with 40 percent more third-row legroom and 68 percent more maximum cargo space than its predecessor. The cockpit also boasts an industry-first, 38-inch curved OLED display that promises superior color and resolution in comparison to other other screens.

Who knows what other technology will be standard on Escalades when the all-electric iteration arrives in the next few years.
