Hafthor Björnsson, a.k.a. The Mountain from ‘Game of Thrones’ Just Set a Deadlift World Record

The Mountain has done it again! Hafthor Björnsson, who played Ser Gregor Clegane in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones just pushed the limits of human ability by lifting 501 kilograms, which is just over 1,104 pounds, thereby setting a new world record.

“I’m obviously speechless,” the 6-foot-9, 420-pound Icelander told ESPN. “I’m just so happy and thankful that I got the opportunity to do this, even though the world is going through what it’s going through right now. I’m over the moon.”

The previous world record holder was Eddie Hall of England who lifted 500 kilograms — which Björnsson beat by just one kilogram.

“Not only did I pull this incredible weight, but I also just feel great afterward,” he added. “I’m standing here, tall, feeling good, no injuries. I’m healthy as well. I believe today I could have done more, but what’s the point? I’m happy with this. My family and friends, they were happy with this.”
