The magical Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is home to the Six Senses Bhutan which operates five individual lodges in different valleys; Each completely different from one another, varying in style to fully encapsulate the character of its respective valley.
Located in the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu, Six Senses Thimphu is an icon of the area’s tranquility, offering guests a perfect view of the glimmering Himalayan landscape as well as complete seclusion from the bustling heart of the city.
The Thimphu Lodge is “in harmony with Bhutanese style,” the Six Senses website eloquently describes. Located between apple orchards and pine forests, the lodge is perched on a hillside at an altitude of 8,695 feet thereby earning the nickname the “Palace in the Sky.”
At the center of the resort is the welcome pavilion that houses a reception area with a beautiful antique telescope to observe the surroundings in detail, a lounge, bar, a sunken terrace with a reflective water pond, and the lodge’s signature restaurant Namkha.
Inside the main building, massive floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the valley below. Meanwhile, the decor pays homage to Bhutanese culture through simplicity and harmony with natural timber furnishings, traditional wood-burning stoves, vegetable-dyed rugs, and intricate handcrafted weavings.
In addition to the main building, the property is made up of 25 Lodge Suites and one, two, or three-bedroom Villas. Each guest room is decorated with striking yet simple furnishings and muted neutral hues that complement the surrounding landscape.
Natural light fills the Lodge Suites from oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, and a private outdoor deck overlooks the mountains and the valley.
The rooms are furnished with organic mattresses, pillows, and bed linens, a wood-burning bukhari stove, and private wine fridge and minibar. Each 700-square foot room also comes stocked with an espresso machine, yoga mat, and Bose bluetooth speakers.
The villas, on the other hand, are a bit more spacious, ranging from 1,400-square feet to 3,300-square feet. In addition to everything the suites have, each villa comes with a private courtyard or garden, an on-call Guest Experience Maker available 24 hours a day, a pantry, double spa treatment room, and powder room.
Guests who are able to pull themselves away from their stunning rooms can enjoy the spa, or take part in incredible cultural activities and experiences like an astrology reading with a Buddhist monk, afternoon tea and archery, tree planting at the Talakha Monastery, and a guided meditation and Buddha Dordenma tour.
