TV survivalist Bear Grylls had all of us fooled that one time he pretended to struggle in the desert when in reality he was staying at a hotel. So lame. He’s such a phony sometimes.
But in case you want to experience something similar to that, the first ever Bear Grylls Explorers Camp is opening this October on the historic Jebel Jais located in Ras Al Khaimah, which happens to be the highest mountain in the United Arab Emirates. It’s also home to the world’s fastest zip line!
The Explorers Camp follows the huge success of the famous Bear Grylls Survival Academy in the U.K., and takes things a step further with the world’s first Bear Grylls branded camp accommodation featuring 20 shipping containers that were transformed into bunkers.
Each container is outfitted with bunk beds and can host up to three people. Unfortunately, they don’t offer much else aside from a place to lay your head, but they do have a private BBQ on an outdoor terrace. That way you can cook your meals instead of eating it raw à la Grylls. Fancy!
In addition to the accommodations, the camp will obviously also have the Bear Grylls survival courses that give so many aspiring survivalists a brief rush of adrenaline. The courses consist of making fires, building emergency shelters, learning how to use a knife, instruction on remote medical trauma treatment, navigation techniques, and extreme weather survival. In other words, it’s Boy Scouts on steroids.
“Bear Grylls Explorers Camp and Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain, will offer a blend of adrenaline-packed activities in an ideal environment,” says Paul Gardiner, Managing Director of Bear Grylls Survival Academy. “We are delighted to partner with RAK Leisure in making the Explorers Camp a must-go destination for adventure and nature seekers alike and we look forward to welcoming the first explorers!”
The Survival Academy courses are set to launch on October 16th and the accommodations will be available next year in 2021. Prices start at AED 450 per person, and you can see the packages right here.
