The dessert dates back to the Ottoman Empire where it was created in the imperial kitchens of Istanbul’s Topkapı Palace to be served to the Sultan, royalty, and the very wealthy. The baklava is baked to order from a specialty shop in Gaziantep, which happens to be Turkey’s Pistachio Capital. Unlike many other types of baklava, the bakers in Gaziantep forego cinnamon, rosewater, or any other extra fillings so that you can really experience the flavor of the pistachios.
